Umpqua Forest-Wide HABS
HRA completed survey and inventory, as well as Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) documentation, for the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) in five locations in the Umpqua National Forest (UNF). The locations included Red Butte Lookout, constructed in 1953; Watson Butte Lookout, constructed in 1937; Abbott Butte Lookout, which included a lookout tower, toilet building, and cabin constructed from 1936–1943; three historic-period buildings located within the Diamond Lake Ranger District, specifically the Lake Creek Warehouse (1948), the South Bathhouse (1962), and the Diamond Lake Composite Work Center Cabin (1938); and three historic-period buildings located within the North Umpqua District, specifically the Wolf Creek Guard Station Warehouse, the Fire Office, and the Cougar Shelter. HRA conducted all work pursuant to the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office guidelines for architectural survey and inventory, including completion of a Section 106 Clearance Form for any resources that had not been previously evaluated for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). HRA also completed HABS Level III documentation, including large-format photography, for all resources determined eligible for listing in the NRHP by the USFS (HABS Nos. OR-200, OR-201, OR-202, OR-203, OR-204, and OR-205).
