Gila River Adjudication
As part of the General Streamwide Adjudication of the Gila River in Arizona, HRA conducted research at archives in Washington, D.C., California, and Arizona pertaining to the history of the establishment of, and water use on, the Gila River Indian Reservation in Arizona. HRA prepared expert witness reports and provided critiques of reports submitted by opposing counsel in the adjudication. In a second phase, HRA historians examined the history of groundwater pumping upstream of the reservation and the relationship of this pumping to the 1935 Gila Decree. HRA prepared an expert witness report and presented evidence at trial in Federal Court in Tucson in March 2002.
