HRA, subcontracted to DOWL, Inc., provided cultural resources assessment services for the Combs Flat Road Segment 1A Project for the City of Prineville, Oregon. A federal permit may be required for the work, triggering compliance with responsibilities under Section 106 of 36 CFR 800 (the National Historic Preservation Act [NHPA] of 1966, as amended) as regards potential project effects to historic properties. HRA completed background research and a pedestrian survey of the project area, identifying several historic-period archaeological resources. HRA’s architectural historians inventoried and documented the historic-period architectural resources at a reconnaissance level. Follow up subsurface sampling in high probability areas revealed that no buried archaeological resources were present.
