POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY

HRA researched and wrote an administrative history of the Point Reyes National Seashore in California for the National Park Service (NPS). In addition to doing extensive archival research, HRA historians conducted more than thirty oral history interviews with present and past seashore staff and other individuals who were instrumental in the creation of the national seashore.

HRA prepared a book-length, illustrated manuscript titled Managing a Land in Motion: An Administrative History of Point Reyes National Seashore, which the NPS published in 2007. The history provides a narrative account and analysis of the creation, development, and management of Point Reyes from 1962 to 2002, situating that history within the context of shifting NPS policies and the environmental movement. The publication is available through the NPS’s History E-Library: http://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/pore/admin.pdf.
