Emily Hayes-Rich is an Archaeologist in our Portland, Oregon office. She joined HRA in 2024 and notes “Since starting, I’ve gotten to work on projects from agricultural fields in central Washington, the streets of old Salem, idyllic confluences of rivers in the Umpqua National Forest, and the suburbs of Portland. It’s so special to get to witness many varied histories and landscapes and learn from my incredibly experienced colleagues.” Her favorite memory thus far is “In early May, I was out flagging the border of an archaeological site. It had been raining for hours but all of a sudden that rain turned into this beautiful light snow. I was standing next to a pond at the time and the quiet sound of snow falling on the water mixed with the sounds of confused frogs was so serene and beautiful.”

Celebrating 50 years of HRA in 2024!
