We’re pleased to announce that historian Paul Sadin received Honorable Mention for the National Council on Public History’s 2019 Excellence in Consulting Individual Award for the book A History of the Cushman Hydroelectric Project: Tacoma Power, the Skokomish Tribe, and the Skokomish River, 1910–2016. Tacoma Power—the Pierce County (Washington) public utility provider—contracted with HRA to research, write, and design this interpretive history of the Cushman hydroelectric power project and the Skokomish Tribe of Indians, which traces the tribe’s embattled relationship with the project and Tacoma Power. With the assistance of HRA’s administrative staff, Paul completed every step of creating the richly illustrated book, from conducting interviews and document research to selecting images and designing the layout. The book is a testament to the new collaborative working relationship between the Skokomish Tribe and Tacoma Power.
