Archaeologist – Portland Office

Samantha Thiel received her Bachelor’s in Anthropology in 2014, and her Master’s in Critical GIS and Public Anthropology at Eastern Washington University in 2020. Her Master’s thesis focused on historic mining sites on the Colville National Forest and the life of a small-time miner in Pend Oreille County. She has worked with federal agencies in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho on various Section 106 and Section 110 projects related to recreation, riparian restoration, timber sales, and wildland fire. Her background primarily centers on historical archaeology of the Pacific Northwest, but she also has experience with precontact Plateau and Northern Great Basin archaeology. Samantha joined HRA in 2020, and as a longtime Spokane resident, she is eager to contribute to archaeological research and projects within her community.
