Kelly received a BA in History from Southern Oregon University, a MA in Anthropology from Colorado State University and holds a PhD in Anthropology from Washington State University.
Kelly has over 12 years of experience conducting and directing all levels of cultural resources management throughout the western U.S. and British Columbia. During the last 8 years her work has focused primarily on the archaeology of the Pacific Northwest Coast and the Columbia Plateau. Prior to that time she worked as a Project Archaeologist in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming.
As an archaeologist Kelly specializes in paleoecology using pollen analysis, fire history, dendrochronology, and faunal analysis. Her dissertation research focused on precontact indigenous fire use and landscape management by the Coast Salish in southwestern British Columbia.
