Amazon Prairie Mitigation Bank Project

In 2020-2021, HRA successfully helped the City of Eugene, Oregon, protect cultural resources during design and implementation of a project that restored 324 acres of agricultural farmland to wetland prairie to encourage native plant and wildlife diversity. The project involved obtaining a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and excavating some 40 shallow ponds to increase hydrological functions, as well as planting and seeding the parcel with native plant species. In support of the project, HRA completed background research, permitting, a pedestrian and subsurface field survey, and archaeological laboratory studies. HRA’s report summarized the work and provided resource management recommendations that allowed the City to complete the project with no adverse effects to historic properties.
