HRA supports (re)naming Higgins Avenue Bridge as “Beartracks Bridge”

HRA submitted this letter to the Montana Department of Transportation in support of the joint proposal by Missoula County, the City of Missoula, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and the Séliš-Ql̓ispé Culture Committee to rename the Higgins Avenue Bridge in downtown Missoula the “Beartracks Bridge.” This new name will honor the time-immemorial connection that the Salish and Pend d’Oreille people have with Missoula, as well as the CSKT’s continued presence and vital, ongoing collaborations with the City of Missoula and Missoula County.
