Hylebos Waterway Pipeline Crossing

HRA provided an archaeological assessment of the proposed Hylebos Waterway Horizontal Directional Drill Crossing project to partially fulfill Section 106 requirements of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project consisted of drilling a pipeline underneath Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma, Washington. The inclusion of a navigable waterway in the project area necessitated an Army Corps of Engineers permit, triggering Section 106.

Since the project would be in an area that was developed and extensively historically filled, no field survey was conducted. Instead, HRA completed an extensive review of relevant literature, historical documents and multiple historical maps of the project area, to evaluate archaeological sensitivity.
